The Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva is considered the only Gothic church in Rome.
In 1280 began the construction of the great Gothic church with three aisles by Dominicans, with funds donated by Pope Boniface VIII and many of the faithful. The architects were inspired by the basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, however, greatly simplifying the elements of the example of Florence.
Inside the building preserves valuable works of the fifteenth and sixteenth century also Raffaellino of Garbo, by Fra Angelico and the statue of Christ carrying the cross, the work of Michelangelo.

It amazes me that the detail put into a building back then was more of a thing of art. A thing of price and beauty. Nice work.
